piano and guitar lesson camps1 Learning an instrument like piano or guitar is a lifelong skill and gift. Whether for your own pleasure or for the accompaniment of others, learning how to play an instrument like piano or guitar is so valuable.

Our instructors have a passion for their craft, but also a passion to see children inspired to learn! Summer is great time to introduce the magic of playing an instrument and we have designed a program that inspires and instructs–all with a healthy dose of FUN! Learn a little bit more about our highly qualified and enthusiastic instructors, John Henricks and Barbie Hearne and their excitement for teaching piano and guitar lesson camps for the summer with Kindermusik by SoundSteps.

I have been active as a singer/teacher since graduating from Gordon College in 2008. Performance highlights include singing the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro at SMU, as a soloist with the DSO under Jaap van Zweden, and singing on a regular basis at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. My current teaching schedule covers all age groups from beginning piano and pre-school music classes to directing the Village Singers choir at PVN, a local retirement community. My wife, Sarah, is also a music teacher and singer, we have an adorable, almost two-year-old son, Noah. I love the joy and energy that music brings to people, both young and old, when they actively make music together. It is amazing to see the excitement in Noah’s face when we play and sing, “Liza Jane,” together at the piano. My hope, in teaching camps and lessons, is that I will be able to lay the foundation for a true and lasting love of music-making for each student.–John Hendricks

I have been both a piano instructor and summer piano camp instructor for SoundSteps for a little over 7 years. I have a B.S in Elementary Education from Baylor University. piano and guitar lesson camps2I studied piano under several teachers including her favorite teacher, the late concert pianist Dr. Isabel Scionti. From Dr. Scionti, I learned not only classical methods of piano and performance, but also the importance of the fun and happiness that comes from playing……so piano camps are a fun and happy week of intense learning through one on one instruction, group instruction, games, stories and a bit of hard work! By the end of camp, the kiddos can see the results themselves when they are able to perform a few songs on the keyboard, hopefully beginning  a lifetime love of piano!! My favorite part of camp is hearing a camper successfully play a song for the first time and watching the big SMILE that follows! When I’m not teaching piano or doing summer piano camps, I find time for artwork (I’m also an illustrator), friends and family and playing my piano. I have two grown daughters–one in L.A., and one in Dallas–and a new son in law. I live in Dallas with my husband, two dogs, two cats and a nine year old hermit crab that brings a little bit of the beach back to North Texas!–Barbie Hearne

School stops for summer, but learning never should! Sign up for a piano camp, and guitar camp, a sing and strum camp, or a sing-a-long voice camp! We LOVE SUMMER!
